Giving Tuesday: Give Back During the Holiday Season

Gwinnett Tech in Lawrenceville, Ga., Habitat for Humanity and The Boys and Girls Club are among the nonprofits trying to encourage people to pause in their shopping and find a way to help others.

Will donating to charity ever be as popular as shopping during the holiday season? A partnership of nonprofits hopes so. For many people, the holiday shopping marathon began on Thanksgiving day, with some national chains opening their doors just hours after the traditional turkey dinner. Then comes Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday, which has morphed into Cyber Week. Now, there's a new campaign asking you to open your wallet -- Giving Tuesday. The Giving Tuesday website says the effort, coming on the heels of days devoted to consumerism, is designed "to create a national day of giving at the start of the annual holiday season. It celebrates and encourages charitable activities that support nonprofit organizations." …

ReStore Driver Assistant

Habitat for Humanity is hiring for this full-time position based in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Habitat for Humanity is currently hiring for a Driver Assistant for their ReStore resale store. The person in this position will ride with the ReStore Driver and help them pick up donated items from the donor's location and then assist with unloading the truck at ReStore. They will also help clean and move priced items to the showroom floor and in other areas of the store as needed. A High School diploma and one to two years of related experience is required. Gwinnett Braves Release 2012 Non-Profit Partnership Series

During the 2012 season, the team will recognize non-profit groups.

New for the 2012 season, the Gwinnett Braves will recognize non-profits in the community and help bring awareness, support and funds for their causes. The Non-Profit Partnership Series, is an all-inclusive program which will allow various organizations who volunteer for a common cause to rally together. The series follows the monthly themes of the Gwinnett Braves Grant Program. The program will kick-off Sunday April 15th with "All About Kids," which will focus on organizations that benefit children. It concludes Sunday, August 26th with "Red, White and Blue," and recognize groups that support the military or military families. All grant applicants will get free tickets to the G-Braves game and have an opportunity to have a display table …
