Gwinnett Braves Lose in McCann's Return

All Star catcher on a rehab stint at Coolray Field.

The presence of Atlanta catcher Brian McCann couldn't lift the Gwinnett Braves to victory Friday as Pawtucket rallied for a 5-3 victory at Coolray Field. McCann, a Duluth High grad and Gwinnett resident, went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the first game of his rehab assignment with the G-Braves as a designated hitter. He also is expected to be with Gwinnett on Saturday. Gwinnett reliever Jaye Chapman allowed three singles and a walk in the ninth inning to allow Pawtucket to pull ahead. G-Braves starter Julio Teheran struck out five in seven innings. Wilkin Ramirez had a homer and an RBI for Gwinnett, which remained two games behind Durham in the International League South. McCann May Play With Gwinnett Braves

Gwinnett resident could be at Coolray Field this weekend for rehab stint.

Updated 9:28 a.m., Aug. 11, 2011 Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann, a Duluth High grad and Gwinnett resident, is likely to begin a rehab stint this weekend at Coolray Field. A published report on www.braves.com said that McCann, a frequent major league All Star since his rookie year of 2005, might be in a G-Braves uniform for Friday's game vs. Pawtucket (7:05 p.m.) McCann has been on the disabled list with a strained muscle in his left side since July 26. It is not known whether McCann would play catcher in Gwinnett. Pawtucket is an American League affiliate, so McCann would be able to be the G-Braves' designated hitter.  In Wednesday's G-Braves game, Brandon Hicks scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning to lead the Gwinnett to a 4-2…
