The Tax Free Holiday is back in Georgia. On Friday and Saturday, you won't have to pay taxes on most of the things kids need for school. From clothes to computers. While classes in Gwinnett County have already been in session for a week now, it's not too late for parents to take advantage of discounts and deals many retailers are offering this weekend. A UGA study shows that people may use social networking sites to boost self-esteem rather than chat with friends.
A new study has found that social networking users may focus more on themselves than on connecting with others. The study was conducted by graduate student Brittany Gentile in the University of Georgia's Department of Psychology, and department head Keith Campbell, along with San Diego State University Professor Jean Twenge. It found that people who log into Facebook may be boosting their self-esteem in the process. Users of sites like Myspace may show also show higher narcissism traits. Researchers conducted the study by randomly assigning college students to edit either their Facebook or Myspace pages, or to do a control task online such as interacting with Google Maps. What are people saying after Shirley Lasseter pleaded guilty to bribery charges and resigned as Gwinnett County Commissioner Thursday?
On Thursday, Shirley Lasseter pleaded guilty to federal bribery charges Thursday. She then resigned her post as a Gwinnett County Commissioner. According to authorities, Lasseter accepted $36,500 in bribes from an undercover FBI agent posing as a South Florida real estate developer. The Twitterverse immediately expressed their shock and pondered what this means for the future of Gwinnett County.
