The Aurora Theatre in Downtown Lawrenceville is getting ready to raise the curtain on its 17th season with Sweet Charity. This play chronicles the misadventures of Charity Hope Valentine, a dancer trying to find her way through love and New York City in the 1960's. The original Broadway production with music by Cy Coleman, lyrics by Dorothy Fields, book by Neil Simon and choreography by Bob Fosse won five Tony Awards. The Aurora cast stars Rebecca Simon as Charity Hope Valentine and her husband Trent Blanton, a native of Canton, Ga., as all of Charity's love interests. “We traditionally open the season with a classic Broadway musical at Aurora," said Aurora's Producing Artistic Director Anthony Rodriguez in a release. Take the kids to see "The Garden of Iz" at the New Dawn Theatre Company in Duluth Wednesday. It's not your typical play where the little ones have to try to sit quietly in their seats. Children can jump, crawl and dance and be part of the show. The play is recommended for kids ages three to seven. Showtime is at 11am Wednesday through Friday. Make the short drive over to Duluth to check out the Red Clay Theatre's weekly family friendly shows. This week's performer is Miss Tara as she presents "Jelly Beans and More." Showtime is at 10:30am. Tickets are $3.

Patch is giving away five pairs of tickets to see this play at the Aurora Theatre.
Fore! Actually, five. That’s how many pairs of tickets we’re giving away to see The Fox on the Fairway, playing now at the Aurora Theatre in Downtown Lawrenceville. Ken Ludwig’s The Fox on the Fairway is a comedy about golf and a rivalry between two country clubs. Ludwig also wrote Moon Over Buffalo and Lend Me a Tenor. The winners will be able to go to a show of their choice between Thursday, May 24th and Sunday, May 27th. To enter, simply tell us why you like local theater in the comment section below.
