Lawrenceville and Gwinnett PD's Getting By Without Radar Guns.

Lawrenceville and Gwinnett PD's continue to patrol without radar guns while awaiting official agreements.

Since midnight on December 31st, police in Lawrenceville and 15 other cities in Gwinnett have been without the license to use radar and laser guns due to an ongoing legal dispute. Since March, the state of Georgia has halted most grants, loans and permits to Gwinnett until the state approves a city and county agreement on a Service Delivery Strategy, a consensus between city and county officials detailing how funds and services will be allocated within a jurisdiction. Starting Jan.1, police in Lawrenceville and five other Gwinnett cities may not be able to use radar and laser guns, because of an ongoing legal dispute.

As we ring in 2011, it looks like police in Lawrenceville and five other Gwinnett cities may lose their best weapons to catch speeders. Starting Jan.1, officers may not be able to use radar and laser guns, because of an ongoing legal dispute. The matter is still in the hands of a judge. County and city officials can't seem to decide on how to divide up expenses for some services. State law requires the county and all 15 cities to agree on a Service Delivery Strategy. After negotiations reached a stalemate in August, the case went to court. County and city officials came close to an agreement earlier this month, but talks broke down again.
