Gwinnett to Buy 5 Fire Trucks

The money will come from SPLOST funds.

  Gwinnett County will purchase five new pumper-engines for the fire and emergency services department over the next two years. They will replace aging trucks currently being used by the department. The $2.5 million for the new trucks will come from SPLOST sales tax. The pumpers are powered by diesel and will each hold 750 gallons of water. When they are hooked up to a fire hydrant, they will be able to pump 1,500 gallons of water per minute. “These new engines will go to fire stations across Gwinnett County as primary response units for fires and emergency medical incidents," said Fire Chief Bill Myers in a release. Police Arrest Third Man in 2011 Murder

Robert Lashaugh Hodge was the third man charged in connection to the murder of Jose De Manuel Alfaro in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

Gwinnett County Police have arrested a third suspect in connection to the November 2011 murder of 18-year-old Jose De Manuel Alfaro in unincorporated Lawrenceville. Robert Lashaugh Hodge, of 577 Summerville Dr, was arrested and charged with murder. He was booked into the Gwinnett County Detention Center early Thursday morning where he is currently being held.  Two days after Alfaro's killing, Brandon Prasad turned himself in to authorities. He was the first suspect sought by police. A few days later, Rodrigo Serna was arrested.

Gwinnett Police Officer Arrested

The officer is a recent graduate of GCPD's academy. He has been charged with electronically furnishing obscene material to minors and may face more charges.

  Gwinnett County Police arrested one of their own Friday.  In a release, GCPD announced the arrest of David D. Lowe. The 26 year old Lowe graduated from the police academy earlier this month. Lowe is charged with electronically furnishing obscene material to minors. Investigators are looking into additional charges. GCPD's Special Victims Unit received a tip from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations about explicit video on the website MyYearbook.com, a site designed for use by minors. The site allows users to create a profile and only interact with people in their age range. For example, if a 14 year old creates a profile, they will only be able to interact with users between the age of 13 and 16.  The tip from GBI showed that an unknown …

Man Arrested for Impersonating Police Officer

The man said he was a confidential informant for Gwinnett County and Lawrenceville Police Departments and claimed he had been murdered 14 times.

  A Lawrenceville man not only claimed to be a police officer, but also that he evidently had come back from the dead more than a dozen times. Gwinnett County Police were called to the Durant at Sugarloaf apartments Sunday afternoon. There they found a bloody Christopher Geis shouting "They just beat me up!" Geis claimed to have warrants for the men who reportedly attacked him. He handed over nunchucks and a folded pocket knife to one of the responding officers. Geis then told them that he was a confidential informant for Gwinnett County and Lawrenceville Police Departments and he had been helping them solve several drug, gang and murder cases. Four People Arrested in Illegal Gambling Bust

The owner of a Lawrenceville, Ga convenience store and three clerks were arrested.

Gwinnett County Police have arrested two Lawrenceville men, along with two others after cracking down on illegal gambling allegedly going on at a local store. According to a police report, undercover officers went into One Stop convenience store on Lawrenceville Hwy five different times. Each time they were given cash for winning on electronic gambling machines. After executing their search warrant, officers arrested the store’s clerk, 21 year old David Batista of Lawrenceville. Police later arrested the store’s owner, 47 year old Husam Abushmais of Baugh Springs Lane in Lawrenceville. MD “Murad” Kibria, 21 of Norcross, and 20 year old Bassam Al Jashaami of Clarkston were also arrested. All four have been charged with commercial gambling, …

Triple Murder Suspect Arrested in Kentucky

James Lanier, a third suspect in February's triple homicide in unincorporated Lawrenceville, Ga. was arrested Tuesday.

  A third man wanted in the murders of three men in unincorporated Lawrenceville has been arrested in Kentucky. Maysville Online reports James H. Lanier, 33, was arrested there late Tuesday evening.  Officer T.C. Rice of the Maysville Police Department told the website that the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office contacted them to let them know Lanier could be in the area. The suspect is from Georgia but reportedly has a girlfriend who lives in Maysville, Ky. Lanier was indicted last week as the third man in a drug deal gone wrong. Ernest Huff of Lawrenceville, and Theron Green of Auburn were also indicted on counts of murder, felony, aggravated assault and weapons and drug charges. Lawrenceville Man Charged with Kidnapping

Police in Gainesville, Ga. say the 19 year old kidnapped a woman at knifepoint.

  A 19 year old Lawrenceville man has been arrested on charges of kidnapping a woman at knifepoint in Gainesville on Monday. According to AccessNorthGa.com, Gainesville Police Cpl. Joe Britte said Rene Vargas reportedly forced the woman into a vehicle, then took her to Flowery Branch. From there, Vargas and the victim got into a cab and were dropped off near the Mall of Georgia in Buford. "Our investigators went out there and actually made contact with the suspect and the victim walking on foot on Buford Drive heading toward Lawrenceville," said Britte to AccessNorthGA.com. Lawrenceville Police assisted in the apprehension of Vargas. The woman, who according to Britte was familiar with Vargas, was not harmed.

Woman Runs Off Naked After Crashing Car

The woman told Gwinnett police her clothes "just fell off" after a hit and run accident in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Officers thought they were on their way to a typical one-car accident Wednesday afternoon in Lawrenceville, Ga. It turned out to be anything but-- even before they even arrived to the scene. On their way to the crash, Gwinnett County Police spotted a 39-year-old woman they identified as Stephanie Lynn Holt running completely naked at around 2:15 p.m. near the intersection of Sugarloaf Parkway and Old Norcross Rd. According to police, an officer stopped Holt. She told him her clothes "just fell off" and she was running home to her apartment about a mile down the road. Holt had reportedly crashed her 2002 Pontiac Grand Am into a sign at a subdivision at the intersection of Sugarloaf and Isham Drive. She told officers she does not know why …

GCPD Trains Media About Use of Force

In light of recent incidents, Gwinnett County Officers showed members of the media some of training they go through to prepare to protect and serve.

  Last month, Gwinnett County Police officers shot and killed a Lawrenceville man who was reportedly suicidal. This issue is also a sensitive one for the Loganville Police Department and Walton County Sheriff's Office that have had two police shootings in the last three weeks. In all instances, it is reported that the suspect was shot dead by members of law enforcement after attempts to defuse the situation failed. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently investigating as is standard procedure in any fatal police shooting.  On Friday, GCPD officers showed members of the media why that decision is never an easy one to make.
