The Gwinnett County Board of Education approved Clifton Alexander as the new Principal of Simonton Elementary School. He is currently an Assistant Principal at Meadowcreek Elementary where he has been since 2009. Alexander previously worked at schools in Dekalb and Dougherty Counties. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Albany State, a Master's in Psychology and Counseling from Troy State and Specialist’s degree in Educational Administration from Central Michigan University. He will take over for Dr. Chandra Young after she accepted a new position as Director of Leadership Development in the Division of Human Resources. Also making moves is Dr. Michele Smith. The Gwinnett County Board of Education announced four new GCPS principals during a special called meeting on Friday. The vacancies are the result of retirements, transfers and departures by current principals. Dr. Stacey Schepens will take over as principal of Crews Middle School in the next few weeks. Gwinnett County Board of Education appointed Phyllis Dartt as Principal of Cedar Hill Elementary School in Lawrenceville. Dartt will take over for current Principal Dr. Susan Bearse who is being transferred to Berkeley Lake Elementary School. The principal there is retiring. Right now, Dartt is an Assistant Principal at Cooper Elementary School in Loganville. She also served as an Assistant Principal at Partee Elementary from 2004 to 2007 and at Sweetwater Middle School from 1998 to 2004. Dartt also taught mathematics, science and social studies at Sweetwater. Dratt holds a Bachelor's degree from Georgia State University and a Master's from the University of Georgia. She will assume her new position on June 1st.

Gwin Oaks Elementary School will have a new principal come fall. Gwinnett County Public Schools announced Tonya Burnley will head the school. Burnley will take over for Peggy Goodman who is heading to Five Forks Middle School following the retirement of Dr. Mary Hensien. Burnley is currently an Assistant Principal at Meadowcreek Elementary School. She has been in that position since 2007. Previously, she has taught at Snellville Middle School and Magill Elementary. She earned her Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Georgia State University and is currently working on her Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership at Mercer University. Lamont Mays says he's excited for the first school year at Lawrenceville's newest middle school.
Moore Middle School will open it's doors in August as the newest middle school in Lawrenceville. It will be part of the Central Gwinnett cluster and help relieve Richards Middle School, which is currently the only middle school in the cluster. Lawrenceville Patch sat down for a one-on-one interview with Moore's first principal, Lamont Mays, less than one month into his first year as a principal. Previously, Mays served as an assistant principal at Osborne and Hull Middle Schools.

Dr. Janet Blanchette was named the new principal of Lovin Elementary School.
The Gwinnett County Board of Education named Dr. Janet Blanchette as the new principal of Lovin Elementary School. Since 2007, Dr. Blanchette has been the Director of Mathematics, Teaching and Learning Division for Gwinnett County Public Schools. From 2000 to 2007, she served as Assistant Principal and Local School Technology Coordinator at Crews Middle School.
