The six will receive a full scholarship for their entire college career to the school of their choice.
Twelve Gwinnett County Public School seniors were selected as Gates Millenium Scholars. Six of them attend high schools in Lawrenceville. Five students currently attend Mountain View High School and one will graduate from Central Gwinnett. The winners will receive a full scholarship to the college of their choice for each academic year. Here are the six students from Lawrenceville high schools and where they will be attending college: The group of 12 is the largest ever selected from Gwinnett County. They were chosen for their high academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities and family financial need. Thousands of high school students will graduate this May in Gwinnett County. Now, the list is out for the 2013 graduation schedule. See below the list of graduations. First up is Lawrenceville's Phoenix High School on May 20 at 7 p.m. The last school to graduate students is Archer High School at 7 p.m., May 25. The Bears from Lawrenceville, Ga. played against the Comets of Snellville at the home of minor league baseball's Gwinnett Braves.
Coolray Field welcomed the top high school baseball teams in Gwinnett for a special showcase this weekend. On Friday afternoon, the Mountain View Bears faced off against the South Gwinnett Comets. It was a close game as the Comets beat the Bears by one run with a final score of 7-6. Be sure to watch the video of South Gwinnett Senior Drew McCarthy as he hits a triple in our photo and video gallery. The showcase continues Saturday as Providence Christian Academy High School takes on Duluth at 2p.m. Then at 4:30p.m., Collins Hill and Brookwood will face off. The final game will be between North Forsyth and Peachtree Ridge.

After graduating from Archer, Melissa Thomas will attend the University of Georgia in the fall where she plans on majoring in nursing. In the future, Thomas hopes to become a Pediatric Oncology nurse at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. She is the daughter of Mike and Sandi Thomas and is an honor student, musician and athlete. The National Honor Society, Beta Club and the Philharmonic Orchestra as well as the volleyball and basketball teams are just a few of her activities. Thomas is the recipient of the Hugh O’Brien Youth leadership Award (HOBY), AP Scholar Award and more.
