We went to Alexander Park to find moms and grandmas celebrating Mom's Day early.
Jump into the Way-Back Machine and set the dial for 1914. We stop at the United States Congress and find they have approved and designated the second Sunday in May to honor our mothers. Not only did Congress approve it, they required the President to issue a proclamation of the event. This proclamation, it turns out is both joyous and sorrowful. While most of the country honors and bestows gifts on our moms, some mothers use it to protest against wars in which they have lost a child. Our hearts and prayers go out to them. This Mother’s Day, most families will honor Mom through various methods. She’ll be showered with flowers, candies, cards, a dinner at a fine restaurant and will be given a day off from all the wonderful things she does so…

So now all you have to do is grab the kids... and go! 1. McKendree Elementary Fun Run/Walk On Friday, help McKendree Elementary raise $12,500 to buy new technology for their classrooms. The event is also to help promote health and physical fitness in children. 2. Home Depot Kids Workshop Kids will work on projects with the help from an adult. This week we suggest moms escape through the pages of a good book.
To many the ideal great escape may not be reading a book. When asked what a great escape would be, most would probably instantly think of something more sophisticated like going to the spa. Yet, exploring the realms of a great book makes for an inexpensive “Great Escape”. Many women prefer and boast about relaxing and relieving themselves of daily activity by cuddling up to their favorite book genre on the sofa at home, on the floor at a book store like Books-A-Million, or while sipping their favorite coffee, mocha or latte at Starbucks. Walking or browsing the books at the local library or book store, also makes for a fulfilling, yet surprising get away.
