Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson addressed challenges facing the City of Lawrenceville including the closure of the Public Service Commissions fines and health care costs.

City Council Makes Way for New QuikTrip in Lawrenceville

Mayor Johnson cast the tie breaking vote to re-zone a parcel on Scenic Highway to build a gas station, convenience store and a new Wendy's.

After months of discussion, the Lawrenceville City Council voted to approve the re-zoning of a corner entering Downtown to accommodate a new QuikTrip and Wendy's on Monday evening. The location will be at 181 Scenic Hwy. There is already a Wendy's on this plot. A new fast food restaurant will be built on the back end of the lot. The gas station and convenience store will be at the front of the property. Discussion about the issue lasted for over an hour Monday night. The council heard from QT representative, supporters and opponents.  The council split the vote 2-2. Councilmembers P.K. Martin and Marie Beiser voted in support of the rezoning, while Bob Clark and Tony Powell voted against it.  The final decision came down to Mayor Judy …

Johnson, Beiser and Powell to Run Unopposed

Lawrenceville's Mayor and two city councilmembers will not have opponents in Novembers elections.

The qualifying period for Lawrenceville City elections ended Friday at 4:30pm. The elections in November are for Mayor, City Council Post 1 and Post 2. The current seat holders were the only ones to submit their qualification notices. Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson and Councilmembers Marie Beiser and Tony Powell will all run unopposed. All three submitted their notices on Monday, the first day of the qualifying period.

Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the City’s New Water Treatment Plant Unveiled a Big Surprise

Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson, with help, pulled off a big surprise at the ribbon cutting ceremony at the city’s new water treatment plant.

When Mahlon Burson awoke on Friday morning he had no idea of the life changing surprise that was in store for him. He missed a clue when his wife Mavis stopped him from driving alone, so that he could arrive early, in his old pickup truck to the ribbon cutting ceremony at the city’s new water treatment plant on Winer Industrial Way. As Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson takes to the podium, Burson who is surprised at how many people have showed up for a ribbon cutting on a rainy and overcastted morning, missing yet another clue.
