City Council Makes Way for New QuikTrip in Lawrenceville

Mayor Johnson cast the tie breaking vote to re-zone a parcel on Scenic Highway to build a gas station, convenience store and a new Wendy's.

After months of discussion, the Lawrenceville City Council voted to approve the re-zoning of a corner entering Downtown to accommodate a new QuikTrip and Wendy's on Monday evening. The location will be at 181 Scenic Hwy. There is already a Wendy's on this plot. A new fast food restaurant will be built on the back end of the lot. The gas station and convenience store will be at the front of the property. Discussion about the issue lasted for over an hour Monday night. The council heard from QT representative, supporters and opponents.  The council split the vote 2-2. Councilmembers P.K. Martin and Marie Beiser voted in support of the rezoning, while Bob Clark and Tony Powell voted against it.  The final decision came down to Mayor Judy …

No Elections in City of Lawrenceville This Year

The incumbent Mayor and City Council Members faced no opponents so there will not be an election in the incorporated city.

A reminder that residents in Lawrenceville's city limits will not need to go to City Hall to vote this year. No challengers for incumbents Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson and Post 1 and 2 City Council Members Marie Beiser and Tony Powell submitted applications during the qualifying period in August. However, city residents will still need to go to their voting precinct to cast ballots in county, state and national elections. Click here to find your precinct. Since there are no elections, Lawrenceville's City Council voted in October to move their meeting to the typical first Monday of the month for November (Nov. 5) and December (Dec. 3) from the second Mondays of those months.

Awesome news! Finally we have a group of people working together who are interested in moving our city into the 21st Century. For too long we have been stuck in...."that's the way we have always done it" mode. Grateful for your leadership, dedication, and time devoted to keep Lawrenceville moving in the right direction. Deal OKs Changes to Terms for Mayor and Council

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal approved the change in length of terms and limits for Lawrenceville lawmakers.

The City of Lawrenceville will be holding fewer elections in the future. Governor Nathan Deal signed into law changes to the City's charter, allowing for the mayor and city council members to hold four year terms instead of the current two year terms.  Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson was not available for comment, but noted in a previous city council meeting that this does not mean the current seat holders will automatically extend their terms. The change will go into effect with the November elections when residents will vote for Posts 1 and 2, seats currently held by Marie Beiser and Tony Powell, as well as for Mayor. Councilwoman Beiser believes the change will be good for Lawrenceville. "I think the four year terms will benefit the city …
