Council-Member Beiser Visits Cedar Hill ES

Beiser visited all the elementary schools in the Central Gwinnett Cluster Thursday.

Council-Member Marie Beiser paid a visit to Ms. Blair's kindergarten class at Cedar Hill Elementary Thursday morning. Beiser read Llama Llama Red Pajama to the class as part of Jumpstart's "Read for the Record." Donning her own red pajamas, Beiser read to a class at each of the elementary schools in the Central Gwinnett Cluster.  After story time, Beiser got down on the ground to pose for a picture with the class in front of a sign welcoming her. Check back with Lawrenceville Patch for the video of readers sharing the story at Cedar Hill.

First Day of School at Winn Holt Elementary

Monday was the first day of school in Gwinnett County, and photographer Raven Nichols took her camera to Margaret Winn Holt Elementary in Lawrenceville to capture some of the sights on the big day.

By now, students in Gwinnett County have been back at it for almost a week.  Monday marked the first official day of school, and my camera and I visited Margaret Winn Holt Elementary just in time for the kindergarten lunch period and first grade recess.  The first day of school is special. I love seeing kids marching down the hall in their brand new sneakers and backpacks, forming new friendships on the playground and getting to know the teachers who will play a huge role in their lives in the coming year. Lunch time for the kindergarten students is particularly special. Watching those little ones negotiate the cafeteria line, carefully balancing their trays with tiny hands is a bittersweet sight to me. I hope you'll enjoy the pictures of …

Casey Anthony has been let out of jail, there's a heat wave in the midwest and in three weeks your children will be back in school. Yes! It's true! In three weeks, Lawrenceville students will be returning to school and summer will officially be over. So for the next three weeks there are plenty of things to do besides watching Casey Anthony's next move or heading to the movies to see Harry Potter's final movie (if you haven't already).   A few days ago, I was talking to a friend and she told me that throughout the summer she had been giving her children homework. Homework? I said. She said she went to School Box and purchased some grade appropriate activity books that would help her children maintain what they learned the previous year and…
