Preczewski Appointed GGC's Interim President

Dr. Stanley “Stas” Preczewski will fill in after Dr. Daniel Kaufman's tenure as president of the Lawrenceville, Ga. college ends in June.

On Friday, University System of Georgia (USG) Chancellor Hank Huckaby announced Dr. Stanley “Stas” Preczewski will temporarily take on the role of president of Georgia Gwinnett College.  Preczewski is currently the college's vice president for Academic and Student Affairs at the Lawrenceville college. His first day as interim president will be July 1st-- one day after Dr. Daniel Kaufman's last day at GGC. Kaufman announced last week he accepted the job of President and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. Preczewski has served in his current position since GGC's founding in 2005. Decision to Leave Georgia Gwinnett was Not an Easy One Says Kaufman

"Opportunities have come along that wouldn’t have come along," GGC President Dr. Daniel Kaufman told Lawrenceville Patch as he reflects on his tenure at the college and his decision to take the position of President and CEO of the Gwinnett Chamber.

The news is still new to Georgia Gwinnett College and the Lawrenceville community. GGC’s charter president, Dr. Daniel Kaufman, announced late Thursday afternoon he is stepping down. His last day will be June 30th. On July 1st, Kaufman begins his new role as President and Chief Executive Officer of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. Lawrenceville Patch spoke with Kaufman via phone Friday morning about his decision to leave GGC before he left on a pre-planned trip. Kaufman said it was by no means an easy decision to make. “Opportunities have come along that wouldn’t have come along. Georgia Gwinnett College to Commemorate Sept. 11

The college's Police Honor Guard will hold a flag ceremony open to the public.

The Georgia Gwinnett College Police Honor Guard will hold a public memorial flag ceremony Sunday at the campus flagpoles to commemorate the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. The ceremony is one of several local commemorative events scheduled. According to a news release from the college, here is the schedule: “The 10th anniversary of the attacks is an important time to remember those individuals who lost their lives, their families and the first responders who dutifully sacrificed their lives to protect and serve the citizens of this great nation,” Kaufman said in the release.

GGC Vice President to Retire

Gordon Harrison to step down July 1st.

Georgia Gwinnett College announced the retirement of Gordon Harrison effective July 1st. Harrison is one of the school's first three employees and an original cabinet member. In January 2006  he was appointed by the chancellor of the University System of Georgia to serve on the management team overseeing the college’s creation. According to GGC's President Dr. Daniel J. Kaufman, the Lawrenceville college now has have 750 employees, almost 6,000 students and a budget of $60 million.
