Nash, Brooks and Hunter to Be Sworn in to County Commission Sunday

The group swearing-in ceremony will take place at the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center in Lawrenceville, Ga.

Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash, District 1 Commissioner Jace Brooks and District 3 Commissioner-elect Tommy Hunter, will be sworn in Sunday, Dec. 30 at the Gwinnett County Justice and Administration Center.  Nash, who has served 18 months as chairman since winning a special election in March of 2011, was unopposed in both the Primary and General Election and will begin a full four-year term in January. Hunter defeated two-term incumbent commissioner Mike Beaudreau in the August runoff and was unopposed in the General Election. He takes office in January. Hunter will represent part of Lawrenceville. Brooks to be Sworn in as County Commissioner

Jace Brooks will fill the rest of the Shirley Lasseter's term on the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners.

All seats in the Gwinnett County Commission will be filled by their next meeting on Tuesday.  On Friday, the county announced Jace Brooks will be sworn in as District 1 Commissioner on Monday. He will complete the term of Shirley Lasseter who resigned in May after pleading guilty to accepting bribes. Brooks was the only candidate who qualified for the special election in November to finish Lasseter's term. He is also running unopposed for the full four-year term in the general election. “We are pleased to have the board at full strength again and wholeheartedly welcome Commissioner Brooks to the commission," said Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash in a release. Runoff Election for Judges, Commissioner Today

Runoff races for two judgeships and Gwinnett County Commissioner District 3 will take place today.

Voters will return to the polls today. Runoff elections to fill two Gwinnett County judgeships and County Commissioner District 3.  Two runoff candidates are vying for the Gwinnett Superior Court judgeship being vacated by retiring Judge K. Dawson Jackson. They are Tracey Mason Blasi and Kathy Schrader. Blasi, a Lawrenceville attorney, is a former Duluth Municipal Court judge. Schrader, a Duluth attorney and mediator, is a past president of the Gwinnett Bar Association. She serves as an associate Municipal Court judge for the cities of Duluth and Sugar Hill. Emily Brantley and Pam Britt are seeking to replace Gwinnett State Court Judge Robert “Bob” Mock, who also is retiring. Brantley, a Suwanee resident, is an attorney in private practice…

Modest Turnout for Airport Protest at BOC Meeting

Few citizens wait out three-hour commission meeting to express concerns

A rally to protest the potential expansion of Briscoe Field at Tuesday night’s Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners meeting drew fewer attendees than previous events. Several members of Citizens for a Better Gwinnett (C4BG) attended the Feb. 22 meeting to express concerns regarding the future of the Lawrenceville airport, but many left before the three-hour meeting drew to a close. Jim Regan, one of the C4BG members who waited out the lengthy agenda for a chance to speak during the public comment period, said he was not opposed to privatization, but had other concerns. “We want passenger service taken off the table,” Regan said.
