Since the announcement of a Walmart Neighborhood Market coming to Lawrenceville, several new businesses have moved into the once struggling Bethesda Walk shopping center.
When Jamel Jackson learned a Walmart Neighborhood Market was coming to Lawrenceville, he saw a great business opportunity. Jackson already had a Bigg Headz Barbershop open on Old Norcross Rd. at the Sugarloaf Village Shopping Center and thought this was the perfect time to open a second location. “I always wanted a shop next to a Walmart,” said Jackson. He opened the shop in the Bethesda Walk plaza on May 5th, about six weeks before grocery store only version of Walmart had its grand opening. “I’ve never seen a Walmart close,” said Jackson. “It’s like the best company in the world. The grocery store is expected to open its doors to customers in Lawrenceville, Ga. in about a month.
The signs for the new Walmart Neighborhood Market have just gone up. The grocery store is expected to open in the Bethesda Walk Plaza June 25th. It will be Walmart's first Neighborhood Market in the state of Georgia. Two other locations in Alpharetta and Snellville are scheduled to open later this year.

Gwinnett County Police are asking for your help in identifying a suspect who reportedly snatched a purse from a woman. On April 17th at around 10:15pm, the female victim was closing up the Western Union at the Bethesda Walk shopping center at 3059 Lawrenceville Hwy. Police say as the woman was leaving and locking the door, a gray Chevy Impala pulled up near her. A man got out of the car, snatched the purse from the woman's hands, and sped off in the Impala. The suspect is described as a black male in his early 30s, about six feet tall and weighing between 150 and 170 pounds. He was driving a 2006-2012 gray Chevrolet Impala. I live across the street and the convenience of Publix was the deciding factor about moving into the neighborhood. It was a sad day when they left. I especially miss the bakery, the deli with the fresh sliced meats and the deliciousness of the cooked food.
