Paul Broun, one of the most staunchly conservative candidates in Georgia's Senate election, is confident he can pull through despite struggles in polling and money.

"Si vis pacem, para bellum" No matter the topic, the world is full of armchairRead More quarterbacks. Those who sit around after the game, with all of the facts about the conflict now known, saying with great certainty how clearly they would have known the path to peace and how stupid everyone in the conflicts were for doing things the way they were done. Armchair quarterbacks or not, it is plain foolishness to think that every person has the same core motivations, morals, etc. There is nothing more dangerous than to believe that every human prefers peach and resolution. This is why appeasement didn't work with Hitler. Many thought that we could negotiate with him, or control him by trying to become his friend. Dictators rarely care about what others think of them. When there is a fire raging through a forest, sometimes more fire is used to battle the fire (controlled burns) to stop the spread of the fire. To say that America was/is a warmongering nation is stupidity. A man doesn't run towards conflict, but he most certainly doesn't run from it either. In any given war, had we turned our soft fleshy side towards our enemy, we would have only emboldened them, allowing them to continue to grow and get stronger. Sometimes as much as you do not want to fight, sometimes fighting is required. A bully cannot be reasoned with. Any kids who has ever been bullied knows this fact. You stand your ground and fight so the bully knows that from this day forward you will not be an easy target. He knows that he will always be met with a fight. This President has destroyed America. Our foreign policy issues exist due to our perceived weakness. More people will die due to our weakness than if we had maintained our strength, even if that meant a skirmish.

Current leadership and carter have alot in common. There will be a world power. And whomever the world power is will use their military to achieve their goals. Current pres. is decreasing our defense and military at a rapid rate, while Russia and China increases theirs and meet often to discuss their common goals. As a cancer patient who is reading more research on how cannabis derivatives can help myself as well as others with different chronic or as in my case terminal conditions I find it appalling this bill did not pass on the first go around. If this is true I hope no one in her circle of friends or family ever is afflicted with any of these conditions. she should be ashamed of resorting to these tactics and needs to NOT be reelected. Unfortunately, most politicians have no shame and really don't serve the people well who elected them. Working with juvenile offenders and social services for the past 21 years, I can tell you thatRead More social services for children and the juvenile justice system are two of the most neglected services most states have. I'm glad to see that we have a governor that is giving attention to these areas. If we want to fix what ails society, start young and catch them while they have a chance to start over with better skills and a new outlook on life. I have several stories of kids whose families and themselves got it turned around before they reached adulthood due to volunteer services and grants from the government. I just wish we had more money allotted to some of these programs that work. I don't mind paying taxes when I know that some of it goes to programs that can show tangible results.

Beau waters March 31, 2014 at 08:53 am
I hate it when only half of a story gets told. This is not a case of Government interference. ForRead More years the Vidalia onion has suffered from quality issues because in an effort to rush to market, immature onions that rot quickly on store shelves, have been harvested. In the past year, growers of the onion asked Commissioner Black to help them. Three separate listening sessions were held and an overwhelming majority of the growers asked for this very rule. Bland farms grows onions in Texas and Mexico and it is debatable wether his Vidalia onions actually come from Georgia. This rule takes away his huge advantage of putting out fake Vidalias and thus the reason for the lawsuit.

Wayne, censor the U.S. flag, then, because it flew on slave ships (which a Confederate flag neverRead More did) and it represented the government who protected the practice of slavery. And, yes, the reality of the war is even more vivid when you consider that the Confederacy, indeed, was a legitimate nation and, indeed, it was AT WAR with the United States. That is EXACTLY what happened. I'd say I'm stunned that people don't realize that. But knowing how our history is taught (or not taught) I am not at all surprised. The Confederacy had its own constitution, its own president and vice-president, its own postal service with its own stamps, its own currency. Yes, it was a separate nation fighting the United States. BUT!! The only reason it fought against the U.S. is because Lincoln ordered troops to invade the Southern states, otherwise there would have been no war. There could have, instead, been peaceful relations. Slavery would have ended its own death because it was well on its way already. How can one glorify the CSA and call themselves a patriotic American? Because the war and the events surrounding it were 150 years ago. The results of the war were and are just as they are. There is no changing it. The better question is, how can one not grasp that a person can honor their CSA ancestry and heritage and also be a loyal and patriotic American some 150 years later? What is so hard to understand about that?

Sticking to the subject matter, which has gone off into a really weird spin of publishing onesRead More annual salary, I would like to reassert my opinion that Abraham Lincoln was the greatest of American presidents and Lyndon B. Johnson was the worst. No, Johnson did not create poverty as one contributor suggested I was implying. Of course there have always been many very poor people in the US- in the city and the rural county side. The United States was a beacon for the poor and disadvantaged and absorbed an amazing amount of people that formed our nation along with those that had arrived much earlier and owned land. However, being poor was not synonymous with being a victim and in need of a permanent hand-out. Poor people for the most part worked and lived in a family situation before 1970. Yes there were exceptions as always, but most people were not looking for a check in the mail or an EBT card. In most cities and Atlanta included, Urban Renewal had already replaced the substandard housing that existed. They still had their families, communities and churches. The Great Society was meant to destroy poverty, but the programs offered a way to circumvent the historical pattern of assisting those in need and them permanently connected to government assistance. Of course some people got out of this situation. Many did not and created the underclass that is even harder to break. I see it all the time and saw it tonight. I live near the NW neighborhoods of Atl. that are a sad testament to totally failed programs including Clintons' Empowerment money. No, I do not think Clinton was even close to being the worst president, so no more comments from people who assume way too much.
