Who's Running and Who's Playing? What You Need to Know for the Week of August 27 in Lawrenceville

Politics and football are high on the list for this week.

1. The qualifying period for elections in the City of Lawrenceville begin on Monday. Residents within the city limits will vote for City Council Post 3-- currently held by Bob Clark, and Post 4-- currently held by P.K. Martin, who is not seeking re-election. Last week, Keith Roche announced he is running for Post 4.

2. The Gateway Corridor Committee will meet Monday at 6:30 in City Council chambers. The Downtown Development Authority will also hold their monthly meeting Monday at 7pm on the third floor of City Hall.

3. The Moonlight & Music concert series continues at the Historic Courthouse Friday. This week's featured performer is Yacht Rock Schooner. They will be playing hits from the '70's. Showtime is at 8pm.

4. The high school football season kicks off Friday. Archer and Mountain View face off against each other at the Bears' home turf. Central Gwinnett plays Collins Hill at the castle. Both games start at 7:30pm.

5. Monday is Women's Equality Day. It celebrates the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote.
