Local Teen Named Youth of the Year

The Lawrenceville Boys & Girls Club named their Youth of the Year, she will now in the running for the Metro Atlanta title.

The has named Susan Garcia as their Youth of the Year for 2011.

Garcia is a senior at North Gwinnett High School and has been a member of the Club for the past two years. She volunteers her time at her church and through mentoring programs. Garcia hopes to one day be a forensic psychologist.

She is one of 22 Youths of the Year selected by Boys & Girls Clubs in Metro Atlanta. The program honors Club members who are outstanding citizens and leaders. Each Club selects one youth to represent them based on a combination of academic achievement, leadership qualities and engagement in the lub and community.

“Every year, thousands of new faces walk through our Club doors full of potential. Our goal is to help transform that potential into future success," said Missy Dugan, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta in a release. "These 22 Youths of the Year are living proof that Great Future Start at BGCMA, and I applaud them for their remarkable accomplishments. It’s no easy task becoming Youth of the Year, and these young people prove to be up for any challenge.”

The Metro Atlanta Youth of the Year will be announced at an annual dinner and awards ceremony Thursday, November 10th at the Georgia Aquarium. The event will be emceed by WSB-TV anchors Fred Blankenship and Erin Coleman.
