The Lawrenceville-based Committee for Missing Children appears as No. 13 in an exhaustive report on America's "worst charities."

The Tampa Bay Times and the Center for Investigative Reporting recently released the findings of the project, "America's Worst Charities." And, yes, a Lawrenceville charity made the top 20.

The "worst charities" designation is earned based on money used for soliciting, and not funneled directly into helping the community.

According to the report, the Committee for Missing Children has raised $27 million in donations and steered nearly $24 million of that to fundraising companies. Just $3.1 million has actually gone to the charity.

In the Gwinnett Daily Post, the organization defending itself saying that its fundraising methods may not be the best, but that "we're a very good, successful charity."

You be the judge, Gwinnett. Check the company's records via the "America's Worst Charities" report, and tell us what you think.

Β Two other Georgia organizations -- Children's Wish Foundation International and Our American Veterans also made the list. They are No. 3 and No. 47 respectively.
