Pack Up the Kids to See the Kids

Take the kids up to Cleveland, Ga. to see where Cabbage Patch Kids are born.

It's Friday, time for a quick road trip!

Today's suggestion is about an hour away from Gwinnett, to Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, Ga.-- The birthplace of the Cabbage Patch Kids.

There's free admission, but be prepared because just about everything in the hospital is for sale. Your kids can pick a Kid from the nursery or straight from the cabbage patch and adopt them right there. They also have doctors and nurses to help with the deliveries.

You are also encouraged to bring your own Cabbage Patch Kids to the hospital. They'll get a special "visitors" sticker when they come in.

Visiting hours are Monday through Saturday 9-5 and Sunday 10-5.

I must issue a warning about this trip. If you're a mom (or aunt) who was a child of the '80's, you will have as much fun, if not MORE, than your kids! I remember when my sister and I got our first Kids in the '80's. Well, when we went to Babyland, we were 9 and 5 all over again!

Guess what? I was an 'original' Cabbage Patch baby. I was born in the original Cabbage Patch Hospital where you went back in the 80's! Dr. Neal delivered babies in that building back in the 50's and both my sister and I were actually delivered in that building. That's my only claim to fame. (except maybe that I went to school with Xavier Roberts, the originator of the Cabbage Patch Kids)

Wow! I had no idea that building use to be a real hospital. That's very interesting. I wonder what made them decide to go that route.
