The Gwinnett Braves split two games Wednesday in Norfolk and took a half-game lead in the IL wild-card race. The G-Braves won 11-2 in the completion of a rain-suspended game and then lost the seven-inning nightcap 2-1.
In the opener, G-Braves first baseman Mauro Gomez had a grand slam and a total of eight RBI, a G-Braves single-game record. Reliever Peter Moylan continued his rehab stint from Atlanta with one inning of relief work.
In the nightcap, the G-Braves managed just four hits after having 16 in the opener.

The G-Braves take on Norfolk on Thursday (7:15 p.m.). Julio Teheran (15-2, 2.22 ERA) is scheduled to start for Gwinnett. Gwinnett has five games remaining, and they conclude the regular season at Coolray Field on Sunday, Sept. 5.
