In the last game of the homestand, the last thing the Gwinnett Braves wanted was a rain delay or a rain out. It was a Friday night and the team had a fireworks show scheduled. On top of that it was the celebration of Jackie Robinson and the team had a big promotion planned in honor with the number 42 painted on the field. But mother nature didn't care.
Gwinnett was hoping to play the Charlotte Knights, who are a AAA affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. Todd Redmond was scheduled to start but this is the second time already this year that a start of his got rained out. Redmond was scheduled to start the last game in Florida during the spring camp. However, coach Dave Brundage did decide to continue with the rotation and keep Redmond in the rotation.
This is the only the second time in the history of the team that the weather played havoc with the Braves. Gwinnett was rained out last June 15, 2010 against the Durham Bulls. After an hour and nine minutes, the call came that it was officially cancelled. Gwinnett Braves will be home April 26th when they play the Columbus Clippers, a AAA affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. Gwinnett will play Durham in Durham Saturday at 5:05 p.m.
