Gold Medal Olympic Gymnast to Visit Lawrenceville

McKayla Maroney will visit Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville Tuesday along with fellow Olympic gymnast Jonathan Horton.

She was a member of the women's gymnastics team that won the gold medal and the hearts of millions at the 2012 London Olympics. Now McKayla Maroney is coming to Gwinnett.

Maroney and fellow Olympian Jonathan Horton will speak to student-athletes and coaches at Georgia Gwinnett College on Tuesday.

“We are thrilled with this opportunity for our young men and women to get an up-close look at some of the best athletes in the world,” said Dr. Darin S. Wilson, GGC’s director of Athletics in a release. “This will be a great chance for our student-athletes to learn about personal dedication and the pursuit of team goals.”

Maroney's vault helped the U.S. women's team win the gold medal this summer. She also earned the silver medal for the individual vault. In 2008, Horton won a silver medal in the horizontal bar and a team bronze medal.

The two are in town for the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions, which will perform at The Arena at Gwinnett Center on Saturday, Oct. 27th.
