Atlanta Braves Will Not Return to Coolray Field in 2013

The major league team will take its 'Future Stars' game to Mississippi this year.

Despite a sold-out crowd at Coolray Field last April, the Atlanta Braves will not return to Gwinnett for an encore in 2013.

The major league team, which played an exhibition game vs. its "Future Stars" as a warmup for the 2012 season, will do the same in Mississippi this year. On Saturday, March 30, Atlanta will take on its minor-league stars in Pearl, Miss., home of the Class AA Mississippi Braves.

In the 2012 game, the Future Stars were managed by former Atlanta manager Bobby Cox. And they gave the big club fits, forcing Atlanta to come from behind for a rain-shortened, 4-3 victory.

Gwinnett Braves spokesperson Dave Lezotte said Friday that he has been told that the Future Stars game will return to Coolray "in the near future."

Of course, some Gwinnett Braves players could be participating in the 2013 Future Stars game in Mississippi.

The G-Braves will begin their fifth season at Coolray Field on April 4.

Very misleading headline

Covering that game was very exciting and Coolray was packed. I'm sure it brought in a lot of money to Coolray. Hopefully they'll be back in 2014.

I have to agree with Gary. I was under the impression that the Braves were moving the AAA squad to another city and leaving the city of Lawrenceville with an unoccupied baseball stadium. Not cool.

I can see how if you quickly read the headline and just see "Braves" you might think we were talking about the Gwinnett Braves, but that's why we referred to them as the "Atlanta Braves." And for the record, we try to refer to them as the "Gwinnett Braves" or "G-Braves" to avoid confusion with the MLB team that plays at Turner Field.
