Archer, Mountain View Get Feet Wet at County Championship

Archer's Lydia Jones wins 50 Freestyle.

Although none of the Lawrenceville schools won the county meet Saturday at West Gwinnett Park, Archer and Mountain View may have found a rivalry that could last a long time. Both teams had good showings during the meet. Archer's Sophomore Lydia Jones won the 50 Freestyle with a time of 23:54 while team mate Lexie Smith placed sixth with a time of 24:66.

Archer's Josh Cade placed 12th in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 57:58. Mountain View's Ross Tarantino placed 23rd in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 23:48. Archer's Chloe Fitzgerald was 16th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:32.26. The Mountain View 200 Medley Relay team consisting of Daniel McCullough, Josh roberts, Tarantino and Jake Payne finished 12th with a time of 2:06.81.

Jones again had a good showing finishing second in the Girls 100 Butterfly. She had a time of 55.69 while Mary Huhn of Mountain View finished 14th with a time of 1:05.8. Smith finished 7th in the 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:57.73.

"We're not going to beat Collins Hill and we're not going to beat Mill Creek," said Mountain View coach Matthew Beck. "But we got five wins under our belt and we beat Archer three times this year and hope we can do it here tonight." The Bears have only two juniors and one senior. "We have a great freshman class coming in and that's where it all starts," Beck said.

Parkview won on the boys side while Brookwood took home the crown for the girls.
