Teacher From Hooper Renwick School in Lawrenceville Named Symetra Hero in the Classroom

Shawn Kilpatrick teaches autistic middle school students at a local Lawrenceville school.

Shawn Kilpatrick, a middle school teacher from Hooper Renwick School, was recently named a Symetra Hero in the Classroom.

Kilpatrick teaches language arts, math, science and social studies to autistic middle school students, in grades six through eight, at the special needs middle and high school located in Lawrenceville.

The Symetra Heroes in the Classroom program is sponsored by SunTrust Bank and is designed to recognize 16 Georgia teachers for their outstanding leadership and instructional skills during the Atlanta Falcons season.

Nominations for this award may be made by a teacher's current or former students, parents of current or former students, coworkers, principals or school district staff members. Award winners receive a $1,000 donation to their classroom, a "Heroes" award certificate, two tickets to a Falcons game and video board recognition during the game, a pre-game VIP sideline experience and school visits from the sponsors.
