Parents to Learn About Options After Schools Miss AYP Again

Parents can learn about transferring their students at a meeting next week.

On Thursday, Gwinnett County Public Schools announced that for the second year in a row. The middle school has now been labeled as "Needs Improvement" and must make AYP for two years in a row to drop the designation.

Under the federal No Child Left Behind Act, schools that miss AYP for two years or more may allow parents the opportunity to transfer their students to another school.

Sweetwater's AYP Information Session will be held Monday, July 25th at 6pm at the middle school. Berkmar High School, which is also now designated as a "Needs Improvement" school, will hold its meeting at the same time on its campus. At the meetings, parents will learn about their options before deciding to transfer their children.
