A Gwinnett County teacher has been named the Trade and Industrial Educators of Georgia 2014 New Teacher of the Year.

Max Chavez is the teacher behind Gwinnett’s successful auto services program at Maxwell High School of Technology near Lawrenceville.

A former master auto technician, Chavez has been teaching at Maxwell in 2011.

“I can use many words to describe Mr. Chavez, but one word says it all—passionate,” Dr. Jeff Hall, principal of Maxwell High School of Technology, said in a press release. “If you see his classroom, you immediately know that he is, not only passionate about his curriculum, but he is passionate about developing his students into solid members of the community.”
