Maxwell High Students Earn Nurse Aide Certification

About 40 students attending Maxwell High School of Technology passed state performance exams, and they are now ready to begin careers.

A number of Maxwell High School of Technology students will soon begin careers in nursing thanks to a special program at the Lawrenceville school.

As part of the Nursing Essentials Healthcare class, 42 students successfully passed state performance exams and are now certified as state-approved nurse aides, according to Gwinnett County school officials.

This summer, several of the students also will join the Gwinnett Medical Center Apprenticeship Program,where many of them could be hired full time.

"By successfully passing the test, our students are qualified to walk into a CNA (certified nursing assistant) position today,” said Jeff Hall, principal of Maxwell High School of Technology, in a press release. "Our students are ahead of the game in terms of starting a future in the healthcare industry."

Hall also commended the leadership of Jade Gillespie, who teaches the Maxwell High course.

Maxwell High School of Technology will hold its 2013 CNA Pinning Ceremony for the program's students at 6 p.m., June 8 at Lilburn Christian Church on Arcado Road.
