Gwinnett Tech Receives $75,000 Donation from Cisco

The gift will help the college launch its Health Information Technology program.

The “Legacy of Lives Campaign” has received a donation of $75,000 from Cisco to will help launch the school’s new Health Information Technology program and support the new Life Sciences Center.

Last week, the beginning of fall semester at the college, Gwinnett Tech opened its doors to the first class of "health informaticians" in the school’s associate degree program in Health Information Technology, according to a press release.

"The partnership between education and technology is a vital cornerstone of economic development and Gwinnett Tech," Gwinnett Tech President Sharon Bartels said in the release. "Our students and our community are much richer for Cisco’s progressive investments in education.”

Renee Byrd-Lewis director of community relations for Cisco explained the company’s desire to donate to the college.

"These HIT graduates will have the technology skills to enter an increasingly automated healthcare environment, area employers will have the HIT professionals they need and our community will benefit as the home to an expanding, highly skilled workforce,” Byrd-Lewis said in the release.

In recognition of Cisco and their donation, Gwinnett Tech will name one of the Life Science Center general classrooms for Cisco. This 78,000-square-foot center opened fall semester and serves about 3,000 students annually.
