Gwinnett Teachers, Staff to Receive Salary Adjustments

They will receive an extra 2 days' pay this summer

Gwinnett County teachers will receive a bump in pay this summer, the Gwinnett School Board approved this week.

In its May 15 meeting, the Board unanimously approved a one-time salary adjustment for all full-time and benefitted employees of the county’s public school system.

The adjustment equates to two days’ pay, and will range between $200 and $913, depending on salary. The payments will be made in June, according to a GCPS news release.

High-than-expected property tax collections and savings in the current budget will fund the payments.

“The Gwinnett County Board of Education and I wish to express our appreciation to our employees, who have felt the brunt of challenging budgets for the past five years,” CEO/Superintendent J. Alvin Wilbanks said in a statement. “They have experienced 10 furlough days in recent years, rising insurance costs, and a particularly challenging winter, but they never lessened their commitment to our students. We want to thank them for going above and beyond, every day, to support student achievement. Our employees are the reason Gwinnett County Public Schools is successful.”

The Board made a similar move in November 2012, when it approved a one-day salary adjustment due to increased revenue.
