Gwinnett County Educator Named Top in State for Social Studies

Former Crews Middle School teacher, Mindy Lewis received honor.

Gwinnett County Public Schools announced the Georgia Council for Social Studies selected Mindy Lewis as the 2010 Georgia Outstanding Social Studies Educator of the Year. Lewis is GCPS' social studies content assessment specialist. She was recognized by the council for her contributions in the teaching of social studies.

Lewis was awarded this honor for her work promoting social studies education by using activities that promote democratic values and citizenship, not only in the classroom, but also in the community.

 This year's winner has also contributed to Project Citizen, the Georgia Economic History Project, the curriculum review process, and sequential lesson plans and other initiatives within the county, state and nation. She is also a trainer for the Center for Civic Education.

Lewis has been with GCPS since 2000. She has previously worked at as the social studies instructional coach and an 8th grade social studies teacher.
