GCPS Debuts Digital Online Magazine

Communique provides in-depth information about things going on in Gwinnett schools and classrooms.

Gwinnett County Public Schools just introduced a digital version of Communique for students, families, staff, and community members. It’s an expanded version of the print newsletter sent home in student backpacks or mailed to their homes.

“This is our first digital online magazine,” said Sloan Roach, GCPS executive director of communication and media relations. “Our goal is to provide more in-depth information about the things going on in our schools and in our classrooms.”

In the fall issue of the full-color online magazine, there are articles and photographs about teaching students 21st century skills so they will be able to find jobs in the future, , collaborative teaching of U.S. history and American literature, arts integration, cross-curricular writing, digital apps useful to parents and students, and a “bulletin board.”

Students will continue to bring home copies of Communique Essentials, but this fall's print version consists of four 8 ½- by 11-inch two-color pages plus an insert containing SPLOST information, Roach said. The online version is 12 pages and “offers so much more” including links to websites and videos, she said. Both versions will start coming out three times a year instead of twice, Roach said.

The school sysem is asking readers to fill out a short online survey on the digital version of Communique.
