TSPLOST Public Forum

As if we aren’t taxed enough already, some misguided politicians are raising millions of dollars to promote the largest tax increase in Georgia history!

History has shown that once a tax is in place, it never goes away. If history is any indicator, then metro Atlanta residents will be saddled with this new tax indefinitely. This translates into a cost of living increase that residents don’t want and can’t afford.

The regional T-SPLOST referendum, to be voted on July 31, is being promoted as a remedy for traffic congestion and as a way to provide more commute alternatives to residents. But will this scheme really live up to its expectations? According to Benita Dodd, VP of The Georgia Public Policy Foundation, it won’t:

Proponents are campaigning hard. Unfortunately, the plan barely translates into improved regional mobility. Operating in an if-you-build-it-they-will-come fugue, regional leaders allocate more than half the expected funds to expensive transit projects, most of which would not offer congestion relief within 10 years, if ever.

This begs the question: “Why would anyone support a referendum whose stated goals won’t be reached?”

Join us in a public forum hosted by Young Americans for Liberty at Georgia Gwinnett College on Tuesday, July 17 at 7PM to find out more about this transportation boondoggle.
