Panel Votes to Suspend Sen. Balfour From Office

The state senator from who represents parts of Lawrenceville was indicted on 18 counts relating to misusing his legislative expense account in September.

After being indicted on 18 counts relating to misusing his legislative expense account in September, Georgia Sen. Don Balfour (R-Snellville) has been suspended from office. 

According to the Gwinnett Daily Post, a review panel unanimously approved his suspension Wednesday (Nov. 13). The panel included leaders in the General Assembly, and the action was carried out by Gov. Nathan Deal. 

He also was removed from several boards and committees, including the Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee, the Health and Human Services Committee, the Banking and Financial Institutions Committee and the Senate State Fair Tax Study Committee.
