Improvements to make the grounds at Sweetwater Middle School in Lawrenceville, Ga. were approved by the Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners Tuesday. The drive at the middle school located on Cruse Road will be upgraded. The upgrade includes making enough room for two bus queues, making student drop-offs safer.
The work is expected to be completed before the 2013-14 school year begins.
Also approved by the Commissioners improvements at Hurricane Shoals Road between State Route 120/Duluth Highway and Collins Hill Road. The project includes a new center turn lane, sidewalks on both sides of the road, along with a new curb and gutter. The designs will help to reduce traffic tie-ups and improve safety in the area.
The road construction is expected to be finished early 2014.
The work at Sweetwater Middles School and on Hurricane Shoals Road along with a project at Hopkins Elementary School in Lilburn were awarded to Baldwin Paving Company Inc. The cost for all three is $1.23 million.
Another project to make improvements to the intersection at Old Peachtree Road and Cedar Drive was awarded to low bidder ISC Inc. at $499,294.25. Upgrades and repairs include a new traffic signal, pedestrian crossings, turn lanes, sidewalk and curb and gutter.
The expected completion date is the first part of 2014.
Funding for all four projects is coming from SPLOST sales tax dollars.
