NOTICE OF SUBMISSION PURSUANT TO SECTION 5 OF THE VOTING RIGHTS ACT OF 1965, AS AMENDED

Notice is hereby given to the public that the City of Lawrenceville, Georgia submitted an Ordinance, adopted by a majority of the governing authority of the City, amending the City’s Alcoholic Beverage Code and instructing the City’s Election Superintendent to call a Special Election for the purposes of the citizens of the City to consider the following question or special referendum topic: (1) “”.  The submission was made on August 3, 2011 to the United States Attorney General for the purpose of preclearance pursuant to Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, as amended.  A complete duplicate copy of the submission to the United States Attorney General is available for public inspection at City Hall for the City of Lawrenceville, located at 70 South Clayton Street, Lawrenceville, Georgia  30046, during regular business hours.  All citizens desiring to comment on this submission may do so by submitting comments to:  Chief, Voting Section, Civil Rights Division, Room 7254-NWB, Department of Justice, 950 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington, DC  20530.

PUBLIC NOTICE OF MUNICIPAL GENERAL ELECTION CITY OF LAWRENCEVILLE

Notice is hereby given for a municipal general election to be held at the Lawrenceville City Hall, 70 South Clayton Street, Lawrenceville, Georgia, on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, to elect the two members of the .  The poll will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  The posts for this election are currently occupied by Council Members Peter K. Martin IV and Katie Hart Smith.

A special election will also be held at the Lawrenceville City Hall, 70 South Clayton Street, Lawrenceville, Georgia, on Tuesday, November 8, 2011, to conduct a referendum on allowing the City to permit and regulate package sales by retailers of both malt beverages and wine on Sundays between the hours of 12:30 P.M. and 11:30 P.M.   The poll will be open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Those residents desiring to vote in the election who are not now registered as a qualified voter must register to vote no later than the close of business on October 11, 2011.

An elector may cast an absentee ballot in person at the Administrative Office of the City of Lawrenceville, Georgia during the period of Monday, October 17, 2011 through Friday, November 4, 2011.  City Hall shall be open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each week day for early voting.

Those residents seeking to qualify as candidates in the election must file a notice of candidacy in the Administrative Office of the City of Lawrenceville at 70 South Clayton Street, Lawrenceville, Georgia between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday, August 29, 2011 through Friday, September 2, 2011.  The qualification period shall close promptly at 4:30 pm on Friday, September 2, 2011.  Candidates must pay to the City a qualifying fee of $216.00 for the office of City Council Member.
