Propeller CEO Says Commercialization Could Be Beneficial

Brett Smith said expansion of Briscoe Field could be good for residents in Lawrenceville and Dacula.

Smith wants commissioners to wait to in District 1 after after pleading guilty to federal bribery charges. The vote is scheduled Tuesday, June 5.

"People in Dacula and Lawrenceville have more to gain from this than anybody," said Smith.

I can think of no project that could bring more jobs and economic development to Gwinnett county other than a well run regionnal airport . I want to see the proposal. I have been amazed at all the anti-talk about a project for which no details have ever been released. I have no idea if the current proposal is a good idea or not, because I have never seen it. I believe the controversy over the airport has been caused by a small number of N.I.M.B.Y. opponents. The airport is next to railroad and a major highway. I doubt the noise footprint would grow much beyond what it is currently.

I'm neither for or against the commercialization of the airport. I think what most people have been missing in all the debate ongoing is that we NEEDED to study this issue to determine what was the best direction in which to take the airport. WHY? Because some day 10 or 20 years from now this issue will be revisited and without the frame work from a previous study we start all over again with what we are seeing now. A lot of people will not remember that this same fight came up back in the 90's. Yet then there was no study. Had there been one then, we basically could have said (if the answer in the 90's was no) whats changed since then.

Watch the video. Is it just me, or is his body language contradicting his words?

I agree that we need more information. I see two sides to this, more jobs & more commerce vs. more noise & more traffic. It is hard to decide on an issue like this with very few facts. Does anyone know where more information can be found?

Please refer to the link below Ned. It just wont fiscally "fly" and now we have all the reports we need going forward. The numbers aren't NIMBYS but appraisals from outside firms paid well to offer independent evaluation and their experience is much greater than the 4 years claimed by Propeller..
