Online Tag Design Contest to Reopen

This time, "In God We Trust" won't be displayed across the bottom of any of the entries.

At 3 p.m. today, the Department of Revenue will reopen online voting in the 2011 Georgia license plate design contest.

Gov. Nathan Deal, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and State Revenue Commissioner Douglas MacGinnitie were supposed to unveil the winning design on Friday.

But confusion over an optional "In God We Trust" sticker prompted officials to announce a new round of voting.

Three of the eight finalists contained the phrase and some people thought it was a new, permanent feature.

A law that went into effect Jan. 1 merely gives motorists the option to buy a sticker reading "In God We Trust" to place in the spot normally reserved for the county name.

In the do-over vote, the phrase will be omitted.

"The eight individual images (artwork) will contain a blank 'placeholder,' the Department of Revenue wrote in a news release.

Online voting ends at 3 p.m. Aug. 8.
