Gwinnett to Tear Down Old Justice and Administration Building

The Board of Commissioners voted to demolish the old complex.

The voted Tuesday night to demolish the complex that once housed the . The series of three buildings at 240 Oak Street in Downtown Lawrenceville were originally built in 1948 to house . Back then, the population of Gwinnett County was just about 31,000 with an increase in population of just one percent a year.

The Board of Commissioners said they will tear down the buildings and prepare the property for sale. The demolition was contracted to Cummins Enterprise with a bid of $205,000. 

In a release, District 4 Commissioner John Heard of Lawrenceville said, “These buildings are a piece of local history but the health hazard they pose necessitates their demolition.”
