Gwinnett County Transit Fares are Going Up

The increase is set to take effect January 30th.

Starting January 30th, the cost to ride Gwinnett County Transit buses will go up. This will be the first fare increase since August 2008.

A Local Service one-way cash ticket will go from $2.00 to $2.50. The fare for Express Service will increase from $3.00 to $3.75 one-way in Zone 1 and from $4.00 to $5.00 in Zone 2.

Seniors and others who qualify for the Half Fare will have to pay $1.25-- up 25 cents. Children will still ride free.

Gwinnett County Transit Director Phil Boyd says the cost to operate, maintain and fuel buses has risen over the years and some of those expenses need to be passed on to the riders.

Bus riders will now pay a third of the entire cost to provide transportation services. Federal and state funding will cover the rest.
