Gwinnett County Runoff Election on Tuesday

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 21, in the Gwinnett County Runoff Elections.

On Aug. 21, voting in three Gwinnett County runoff elections will take place at all regular precincts from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

If you voted in the Democratic primary, you will not be allowed to vote in the Republican runoff. There is no Democratic runoff. Voters who did not cast ballots in the general primary or voted a nonpartisan ballot may elect to vote in the Republican runoff. The are two judicial races and Gwinnett Commission District 3 on the ballot.

In Commission District 3, incumbent got 47 percent of the vote, not quite close enough to avoid a runoff in what had been a full field of four. He will face second-place finisher Tommy Hunter in the runoff on Tuesday.

In the Superior Court race, Kathy Schrader and Tracey Mason Blasi face off in a race to replace Dawson Jackson.

In the state Court race, attorneys Emily Brantley and Pam Britt face off in Tuesday's runoff.

Sample ballots are available on the Secretary of State's My Voter Page (MVP)

My concern about the judges races are the enormous amounts of money being spent by the candidates. Special interest have been involved in all the races and are turning the judges into politicians not judges. Some right- wing organizations are pushing our state courts to the right. Judges are more likely to rule in favor of big businesses and against individuals who have been injured, scammed,or subject to discrimination. State courts decide 95 percent of the country's legal cases. The evidence suggests that judges should be picked and appointed through merit selection, not elected.
