Georgia License Plate Design Finalists Announced

Three final designs have been selected. Drivers who want an "In God We Trust" sticker will have to pay a little extra.

The Department of Revenue has announced the three finalists in the .

More than 500 designs were submitted by the public, according to the Georgia Department of Revenue website.

State college and university professors narrowed the choices to eight designs. The public cast more than 400,000 online votes.

“The Department is pleased with the response to our License Plate Design Contest,” State Revenue Commissioner Doug MacGinnitie said in a released statement. “A total of 412,098 online votes were recorded. We extend our appreciation to everyone who submitted artwork for consideration and offer congratulations to the three finalists.”

The three plate designs with the most votes have been presented to Gov. Nathan Deal who will announce the winning design on Friday, July 15.

Noticeably absent from the top designs was the statement "In God We Trust" that was displayed across the bottom of all three finalist tags during the preliminary voting.

According to a Department of Revenue spokesperson, citizens may choose to purchase an "In God We Trust" decal. The decal would be displayed in lieu of the county name which is currently placed across the bottom of each tag.

The "In God We Trust" decal will be available for purchase at local tag offices for $1.
