Gwinnett County has a new Animal Task Force which will hold it's first meeting on Dec. 27 at 7 p.m. in Lawrenceville. This task force will begin reviewing current animal-related ordinances and services, develop best practices, study the role of the Animal Advisory Committee and make recommendations to the Gwinnett commissioners.
Meetings of the task force are open to the public and designed to accept input and comments. Meeting agenda is available online.
According to the Gwinnett County website the county has reduced euthanasia rates but the number of incoming animals has been rising due to the state of the economy. The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has charged the task force with the goal of developing short and long-term strategies to increase adoptions, improve animal welfare and protecting human safety.

The task force is made up of 17-members who were appointed by the commissioners and include members of cat, dog and large animal rescue groups as well as representatives from agricultural and animal-related businesses.
