Council Approves City Park Contracts

Two companies get the green light to proceed with Jackson Street Park design and development.

     Item 1. Request Approval of Tunnel Spangler Jackson Street Park Contract – City Attorney Lee Thompson, Jr. asked council to approve a contract with Tunnel Spangler in the amount of $90,884.00 for design work, construction documents and review for the Jackson Street Park. This project proposal was approved by the council in its October Work Session with instructions to put proposal into an official contract for a vote. It was noted by Mr. Thompson that if the project exceeds the requested amount that additional expenditures will be brought back before the council for approval.

Councilman Peter Martin after making motion for approval, asked Planning and Zoning Director, Dennis Billew if approval of the contract would then allow the city to put this project out for construction bids. Mr. Billew said “yes, sir."

As a follow up, Councilwoman Katie Hart Smith asked Mr. Billew what was the city’s timeline in putting this project out for bids. Billew said, “I think it is about four months.”

The motion to approve this contract passed 3-0.

     Item 2. Request Approval of Hayes James Jackson Street Park Contract – Now that requested changes to the Jackson Street Park proposal have been completed, City Attorney Lee Thompson, Jr. asked council to approve the contract.  Hayes James is seeking to provide engineering services associated with the Jackson Street Park construction in the amount of $37,428.00. Thompson said that any change orders or additional funding will be brought back to the council for approval.

In calling for the vote, Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson reminded the council that this item was discussed in their October Work Session and that all documents, including the revised contract was included in their package.

Councilwoman Smith made a motion to approve the contract that was seconded by Councilman Martin. The motion carried in a 3-0 vote.

Mayor Johnson moved Old Business, Item 6. 2012 Funding Support of Lawrenceville Visitor’s Information Center Staffing to council’s November 16, 2011 Work Session. 

Council moved into Executive Session to hear Personnel, Litigation and Real Estate items.
