The center will undergo major renovations and reopen in the fall.

The Senior Recreation Center at will shut down temporarily beginning Saturday May 28th. The center will undergo major renovations, recently approved by the County Board of Commissioners.

Opened 20 years ago, the Senior Recreation Center at Bethesda Park was the first such center in the county. According to the county, the improvements and renovations to the interior of the center will include the replacement of lighting and plumbing fixtures with energy-efficient models, countertops, cabinets and reception desk along with floor, ceiling and wall coverings.

Part of the funding for the fixes will come from the 2005 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
