Aurora Theatre Awarded Part of $200k State Tourism Grant

The theatre is one of 23 organizations to receive the grant from the state of Georgia.

The was one of 23 tourism entities across Georgia to receive part a $200,000 grant. The Georgia Tourism and the Georgia Council for the Arts combined their resources to provide as much as they could for the 2012 Tourism Product Development grants.

“The Tourism Product Development grants awards will support nonprofit arts organizations and individual artists in a way Georgia Council for the Arts has not been previously able to do,” said GCA Director Karen L. Paty in a release. “This grant award creates the opportunity as well as provides the resources to support and generate increased awareness of the impact the arts industry has on the state's economy.”

In all, 82 organizations applied for the grants-- up from 50 last year. 

Aurora Theatre's Director of Sales and Marketing says the $10,000 they received will be used for the development of the play Bonnie and Clyde: A Folktale, which will run at the theatre in March 2012.
