Woman Found Dead in Longleaf Drive Apartment

After seeing smoke coming from an apartment on the 700 block of Longleaf Drive and hearing a smoke alarm, a neighbor called 911. Upon arrival at 7:43pm, Gwinnett County Fire crews found heavy smoke coming from the single-story unit. 

A neighbor had tried to extinguish the fire with a fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived on the scene. 

When crews entered the apartment, they found a woman sitting in a chair in the living room, which was on fire. They took the woman who was in her 50's out of the apartment. She had burn injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators say no one else was in the apartment at the time. The fire was contained to the chair in the living room where the woman was sitting.
