Woman Attacked and Robbed Outside Drugstore

Police have arrested suspect who allegedly beat the victim repeatedly outside a CVS.

Gwinnett County Police say Jennifer Banks was attacked outside the at 1525 Buford Drive shortly after 7pm on Tuesday, February 15th.

According to a release, Banks was about to get out of her car when a man said "Hey," to grab the woman's attention. The suspect, later identified as 20 year-old Marcus Blakeney of Lawrenceville,allegedly hit Banks in the face and arm about eight times. Banks tried to escape by climbing into the passenger seat and tried to open the passenger door, but Blakeney reportedly locked the doors, trapping the victim inside.

Police say the suspect stole Banks' purse and other items and ran away.

The K-9 unit and the GCPD helicopter were used in the search for the suspect.

A number of witnesses identified Blakeney as the suspect and Banks herself identified him in a photo lineup.Β

On Wednesday, detectives charged Blakeney with robbery and arrested him. He is now in custody at the without bail.
