Victim Identified in Fatal Crash at Buford Drive and Hurricane Shoals Road

One fatality and four other minor injuries were reported at a crash that caused traffic light outage and major traffic delays in Lawrenceville on Oct. 5.

One person was killed and four others were transported to Gwinnett Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries after a crash at the intersection of SR 20 and Hurricane Shoals Road in Lawrenceville on Friday, Oct. 5.

The Lawrenceville Police Department stated in a press release that fifty year old Lawrenceville resident Kim Nguyen died at the scene of this accident which caused traffic light outages and major traffic delays.

According to the press release, Phuoc Thach, a 51 year old male, was traveling south on Buford Drive and attempted to turn left onto Hurricane Shoals Road. Thach's vehicle was struck by a Freightliner truck that was traveling Northbound. The Freightliner was being driven by Lucio Lopez, also of Lawrenceville. Thach's wife, Kim Nguyen, was killed in the collision.

Investigators report that the truck struck Thach's vehicle and then struck another vehicle as well as damaging a traffic signal controller before it could stop in a gas station parking lot.

This accident is still under investigation by the Lawrenceville Police.
